World Cup Kalmthout

If these guys have this much speed and handling in the snow,
image a day with good conditions. Simply amazing, they are
just on a different level of racing over there. Nys is unstoppable,
mechanical in the first lap, crash in the last lap, pulls out the win
in the snow. What a race! This is just the last lap, but you can
watch the whole race in 6 parts.

One Metric Ton

I feel like I shoveled a metric ton of snow. I like this idea, but watch the videos of how they are made. For an installation raising awareness about Carbon emissions, it sure emits a lot of Carbon in its creation. Transporting the shipping containers, machinery to move it onto place, you get the idea. CO2 CUBES.

Get 'stached

Here is the art that is going into production for the gentleman's moustache kit. A reminder that not every ride rips your legs off, but when it's on...the group always comes back together. Not for bragging rights, but to fuel future tales of folklore.

Should be arriving around mid January. Complete kit $165. CONTACT ME. Join the club.

Cyclocross Nationals

Some entertaining video to come out of the singlespeed race at US Nationals this weekend in Bend, Oregon. I give these guys credit for even considering to ride on a hockey rink in 25 degree weather. I give even more credit to the people racing in jeans. Love it. Also would have loved to see how the Elite Men's field of riders would have handled this, but it looks like they with have a mostly thawed and muddy course for Sunday afternoon.

Day in pictures

In an effort to keep the creative juices always flowing, I've decided to come up with this blog feature that is a nod to a visual essay project that I had in one of my photography classes in design school. "Day in pictures" will tell the story of a certain aspect of the chosen day. Sunday was probably the most frigid day this year, so the inspiration here is just simply the cold. With all of the live animals tucked away only the human depictions were able to be spotted, but those fiberglass polar bears seemed right at home.

Stone River

This is a breath of fresh air in so many ways. In our throw away society, it good to see work that will be around for hundreds of years. In our conquest to "go green", are we really in touch with the natural world? In our visual and material culture, it's good to see process and meaning. It is very telling of the state we live in when something as simple as breaking rocks and moving them into place with sheer brute force, can have a such a powerful meaning. There's a lot at work here, and I can relate, for I often hear the call of "the woods". I also need it to stay on the level. Courtesy of DESIGN OBSERVER. Be sure to check out the VIDEO.

We only have a little over an hour, so it's always Rittenhouse. How cold will it get before we finally move inside? Playing chicken with Mother Nature.

I plucked this off the web the other night and thought I'd share. While most choose to spend their Labor Day weekend relaxing and watching summer slowly fade away, I prefer to end mine with 100 miles of Virginia cross country mountain bike racing. If by racing you mean just being able to see that finish banner at the end of the day. By the look on my face, it seems that I don't even believe its over. To sum it up, good friends, free beer, 11 some hours of trail riding, and the ability to never look at a PBJ sandwich the same.

More than gore

A while back I ran into a hidden treasure trove of 80's skate stickers at the PENNSAUKEN MART. Here are some of my favorites from the artists Vernon Courtlandt Johnson and Jim Phillips. I used to just slap these on school notebooks, signs around our skate spots, and whatever Powell Peralta deck I was sporting at any given time. Now I consider these works of art from the golden age of skateboarding where everything was hands-on illustrator driven and the skill of the screenprinters were an integral part of the work.
