Stone River

This is a breath of fresh air in so many ways. In our throw away society, it good to see work that will be around for hundreds of years. In our conquest to "go green", are we really in touch with the natural world? In our visual and material culture, it's good to see process and meaning. It is very telling of the state we live in when something as simple as breaking rocks and moving them into place with sheer brute force, can have a such a powerful meaning. There's a lot at work here, and I can relate, for I often hear the call of "the woods". I also need it to stay on the level. Courtesy of DESIGN OBSERVER. Be sure to check out the VIDEO.

We only have a little over an hour, so it's always Rittenhouse. How cold will it get before we finally move inside? Playing chicken with Mother Nature.

I plucked this off the web the other night and thought I'd share. While most choose to spend their Labor Day weekend relaxing and watching summer slowly fade away, I prefer to end mine with 100 miles of Virginia cross country mountain bike racing. If by racing you mean just being able to see that finish banner at the end of the day. By the look on my face, it seems that I don't even believe its over. To sum it up, good friends, free beer, 11 some hours of trail riding, and the ability to never look at a PBJ sandwich the same.
